New Bishop Wilson School opens

Bishop Wilson Primary School official opening, Councillor Courts and Meeson

The new £10m Bishop Wilson Church of England Primary School threw open its doors for the first time on Friday 6th September 2013.

The school is the latest addition to the North Solihull School improvement programme as well as forming a key element in the North Solihull Partnership's social and economic regeneration of Chelmund's Cross Village Centre.

The new school has been funded by Solihull Council and the Birmingham CofE Diocese. It is the fourth brand new primary in the north of the borough, joining Kingshurst, Smith's Wood and St Anne's Catholic primaries.  It will not only provide education for local 3-11 year olds but will also be at the heart of the Chelmund's Cross community, as it includes a brand new St Andrew's Church, an adult learning centre, community space and health facilities.

Regeneration is not just about bricks and mortar, it has to improve the lives and opportunities available to the local community. This is why our investment in education has been so vital to the North Solihull Partnership's regeneration programme and to the future success of the young people in the area. I hope this magnificent building, alongside the new Enterprise centre and health development, bring lasting benefits to the local community of Chelmund's Cross.

Councillor Ian Courts, Cabinet Member for Economic Development

After the many months of planning for this day it's wonderful at last to be welcoming children and parents to our brand new school. Everyone at the school is incredibly excited by our new home and really looking forward to teaching in this fantastic environment. While our main focus is on educating our children, we are also looking forward to becoming a valuable resource for Chelmund's Cross community with our partners at the St Andrew's Church, the new on-site health services, adult education services and community space.
