Work on the new £3m Chelmund’s Cross Health Centre is now complete. The Centre brings together the GP's surgery, a brand new pharmacy and dentist’s surgery all under one roof.
The health facilities are an important element of the North Solihull Partnership’s investment into the new Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre. The new facilities follow the new Bishop Wilson Primary School and an Enterprise Centre, which provides office space for small and new start-up businesses. Once complete, the village centre will also feature new shops and improved public spaces.
Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, Councillor Ian Courts said: “The health centre is an integral part of the thriving communities we are trying to create with our investment in the new village centres in the north of the borough. This project and the wider plans for the area take a joined up approach to creating the conditions for economic growth, prosperity and wellbeing in the area for the benefit of the local community and for businesses.”
Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre is the largest of the planned new North Solihull village centres. A total of almost £22m has been invested so far. The £10m Bishop Wilson Primary School was completed and opened to pupils in July 2014. The school also incorporates the new St. Andrew’s Church. There is an Enterprise Centre providing office space for small and new start-up businesses alongside new community facilities. Major road improvements have been carried out on the Chester Road with a new junction and public realm being created. Three Trees Baptist Centre has also undergone major refurbishment with support from a variety of grant funding. New retail and office accommodation is also planned to be built next to the Enterprise Centre.
The Secretary of State for Health, the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, recently visited the Village Centre to see the work that had already been carried out. Representatives of the new doctors’ surgery, the dentist and the pharmacy joined local residents and councillors on the site for photos and a brief tour of the site.
